Monthly Update: February

The first month of the new season flew by in an instant. From the first training sessions to our first tournament at the end of the month, it has been a busy start. We had a great number of activities going on throughout February. We also welcomed a good group of new lads to the club this month, of all ages and experience levels. February kicked off the season not only with training, but also with the first social activities, the first pub visits to Tierney’s, and even the first rays of sunshine.

To update you on the first social activities of the season, we actually have to jump back to January. On the 11th of January, after not seeing each other for two months, we visited KUUMA Sauna in Lent to catch up. It was a perfect moment to relax before stepping into the new season. With the heat of the sauna, it was also a fitting warm-up. The brave among us even jumped into the cold lake.

On the 23rd of January, we all came together for something a bit more serious at Tierney’s: the Annual General Meeting of 2025. The board spoke about the official side of running a GAA club and updated members on statistics and important points from last year, as well as plans for the upcoming season. The meeting was a chance to reflect on the past year, look ahead to the next one, and appreciate the hardworking volunteers who make everything possible within the club. The serious but important evening was concluded with a fun quiz and a night out at Roxy’s.

On the 8th of February, there was a surprise activity planned. The surprise could not have been better: pancakes at Conall’s house. There was a breakfast table full of tasty food, pancakes, juices, and the most amazing toppings. Is there a better way to start a Sunday morning? I don’t think so. After our bellies were filled with delicious food, we played a round of Crazy 88, a game where you have to complete as many crazy assignments as possible. A few examples included taking photos with strangers, asking people to tell a joke, splitting the G, or imitating a statue. The best part of the game is that we have the pictures! The day ended, of course, with good times at Tierney’s.

Besides all the social activities, we also played plenty of Gaelic football, and training continued as usual, with even more new people joining. The weather slowly changed from cold, dark winter evenings to sunnier and warmer spring days. On the 21st of February, we had our first tournament. With a total of 13 players, we drove to Leuven for a friendly tournament. Both the girls’ and the guys’ teams joined up with Maastricht. The guys were very successful and won every match, while the girls mixed the teams and played some fun and competitive games. The weather and the vibes were great, making it a very successful and enjoyable first tournament of the season. Naturally, the day ended at our favourite place: Tierney’s.

With the first tournament done, new faces joining, and plenty of good times already behind us, the season is only just getting started. February was a great start, March, we’re ready.
